Framing

Why is it worth framing artworks?

Framing pictures, documents, artworks and diplomas improves their appearance, significantly extends their lifespan and protects them from fading, wrinkling and other damage and wear. Our selection includes high-quality metal picture frames, mouldings from internationally recognised manufacturers, special-colour passe-partouts and picture frame glass with different properties which, in addition to protection against UV radiation, is also practically unnoticeable. Our collective’s undisputed favourite is therefore Art Glass picture frame glass.

What is a passe-partout… ?

A passe-partout is a special material used when framing artworks, photographs and other printed objects to create an aesthetic “picture window” that helps focus on the artwork by separating it from the frame. This material can be found in various colours and textures, such as paper or cardboard, which allows it to be customised according to the work’s style and colour scheme. A passe-partout not only highlights the artwork but also provides additional protection by creating a gap between the artwork and the glass, preventing direct contact and helping to avoid damage to the work, such as the accumulation of moisture and mould under the glass. The backing boards and passe-partouts used at Klaasissepa are all made of acid-free material.

Mirror framing

As with artworks, framing mirrors also significantly extends the lifespan of mirrors and improves their appearance. Klaasissepa’s product range includes a large selection of mirror frames, and we can also do framing the other way around, meaning that if the customer has a frame but the mirror inside it is broken or damaged, we can cut a new mirror to fit the frame. To secure the mirror, we use either metal fasteners or special mirror adhesive. If you order a mirror with framing, you must also order a safety film for the back.
