Matting and painting
Glass matting
Matting is a process that gives glass and mirrors a unique, evenly matte surface. This is done with sandblasting, which sprays sand onto the glass surface under high pressure. The result is glass or a mirror that is evenly matte and lets light pass through, but you cannot see through it. With matting, patterns and shapes can be applied to the glass.
Where is glass matting used?
Matte glass is often used to create distinctive design solutions, whether in home or office partitions or shower glass. On illuminated mirrors, a matte edge adds a beautiful light strip. With the help of templates, different patterns can be created on the surface, resulting in a unique and personal design. With matting it is possible to create different opaque white surfaces on glass, but it is worth remembering that if the goal is privacy or a pattern, painting the glass or covering it with a special film may be a better solution. Matte glass can also be tempered, and it does not matter which treatment is done first.
Technical details and maintenance
Matte glass surfaces are naturally slightly rougher, which can sometimes cause them to get dirty more easily and make cleaning more difficult. However, when maintaining matte glass and mirrors, it is important to ensure that rough cleaning tools are not used, as they may damage the glass. Our recommendation is to use professional cleaning products and a microfiber cloth, something we have been convinced of during our 30 years of experience. In addition, we offer nanoprotection, which makes surfaces more resistant to dirt, reducing maintenance needs and extending the lifespan of your glass and mirrors.
Glass painting
Klaasissepa offers both cold and hot painting for glass. In the case of hot painting, the desired color is applied to the glass before it is tempered. During tempering, the glass and paint bond together, and the resulting hot-painted glass is extremely durable, therefore it withstands high temperatures and is suitable for example for saunas, but also for outdoor conditions such as building facades.
Cold-painted glass can be ordered in any color according to the RAL catalogue. Cold-painted glass is ideal for indoor use, for glass furniture, shower glass or also for kitchen backsplash glass. If desired, glass can be partially painted with both treatments. Back-painted glass is completely opaque, therefore if you want colored glass that is still transparent, a colored film behind the glass should be used.
